Wedge the motivator…maybe

Wedge in thought

Now I’m no expert, but I’m starting to see a trend with the Tribe and the young players.  Maybe ‘trend’ is too strong a word.  I’m not sure how many players constitute a trend, but…dammit, I’m babbling and can’t even get to the point.

Last year Cliff Lee, after a few successfull years, tanked it and got kicked back to Buffalo.  Now he’s back and is arguably the best pitcher in the AL (now that CC is out of the way).

Jeremy Sowers, after a strong debut season, has become Charles Nagy at the end of his career, essentially a batting practice pitcher.

Azdrubal Carrera, Ryan Garko…these are other guys that have shown they can play in the Bigs, but clearly lost the motivation that got them there in the first place.  Garko in particular, was playing HORRIBLY.  Wedge benches him, now he’s hitting the cover off the ball.

Maybe this is the norm in baseball and I just don’t see it happen to other teams because, well, I don’t really care about other teams.  I don’t recall this happening in the past with our players, but I’ll admit to being somewhat spoiled by late 90’s.

Is Wedge having trouble keeping these guys in line, or is that just the nature of these young punks who make it and tend to relax.  I dunno, but I don’t like it either way.  Why the hell am I sitting here watching these guys?!  I can’t stop!!

When’s the next Browns game???!!

solid

Don’t get me wrong.  I’m really trying to break the mindset of “Woe is us” with the Browns.

Nevertheless…

Ryan Tucker breaks a hip.  Hope he had Life Alert.

Josh Cribbs decides right as preseason starts that his new contract comes first.

Beau Bell has knee surgery.

Braylen decides to frolic barefoot and rips his foot up.

Gary Baxter…well…that’s not much of a surprise.

Am I missing anything?  Something may have happened while I typed this up.

That being said, 13-3, and that’s after starting off 0-3.

Who will dare to draft high a Browns player on their fantasy team?

I never really liked the name Jacob’s field, mostly because everyone called it “The Jake” which is just wrong. I wonder what nick names they will come up with for Progressive Field?

Indians to rename ballpark Progressive Field

CLEVELAND (AP) — Jacobs Field will be renamed Progressive Field under terms of an agreement between the Cleveland Indians and the auto insurance company.

The downtown ballpark, known as Jacobs Field since it opened in 1994, will be rebranded for the 2008 season, the Indians said Friday.

The change was first reported by The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer on its Web site Thursday night.

Indians president Paul Dolan scheduled a news conference for Friday morning to release details about the name change.

Progressive Corp., based in the Cleveland suburb of Mayfield Village, is the nation’s third biggest auto insurer, ranking behind State Farm and Allstate.

Former team owner Richard E. Jacobs had held the ballpark’s naming rights, but his contract expired at the end of the 2006 season, and the club hired sports marketing firm IMG to find a new naming rights partner.

Snow continues to plague the Bills

After the snow knocked the Bills back on their heals (Buffalo still gets lake effect doesn’t it?) and the Browns pushed them over. No doubt they were anxious to get home. It wasn’t to be:

Bill plane goes off runway at Hopkins Airport

The charter plane for the Buffalo Bills went off the runway at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Monday morning.

The team had trouble getting out of town after the Browns game on Sunday because of the weather.

Officials said the crew of the Boeing 767 made a wide turn and went off the runway. The accident was not weather-related.

The front wheel of the plane is stuck in the mud near the deicing facility.

The players were put on charter buses back to Buffalo.

The Browns beat the Bills 8-0 on Sunday in a snow bowl at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Maybe they should have just gotten on buses in the first place.  It’s only 190 miles to Buffalo.

There has been one too many stories like this. Something has to go wrong. It has to!

As wins pile up, Browns enjoy perks of winning

“People are starting to get a little excited,” Dawson said. “I think the fans might have been a little hesitant at first to jump in because we’ve let them down so many times in the past.

You’re goddam right I’m hesitant! We could just as easily end up 7-9 as opposed to 12-4. You have to factor in a Bron Bron injury into all Cleveland sports.

And This…

Cleveland showed on Sunday it truly belongs. The Browns aren’t some aberration. They are legit.

Believe it or not, with the schedule (at Cardinals, at Jets, Bills, at Bengals, 49ers) sitting in front of them, it’s possible the Browns don’t lose again and head into the postseason at 12-4.

I take it all back!

Keep Romeo forever!

Browns should reward Crennel for progress

He’s not perfect. But no coach is, no matter how much we want him to be. The Browns could be a playoff team this season, and they also could finish with a losing record. Doesn’t matter which way things go.

They’ve improved, and Crennel deserves the chance to continue coaching them.

He was given a five-year contract for a reason: Because he needed time. The first two years were a lost cause because there was too much change. Now there is the chance to move ahead with stability.

Crennel will have two years to work with a ”full deck,” as they say.

He deserves those years.

He has earned them.

Let’s forget about the notion of getting rid of him.

Brown’s Flag

It is almost December and my Browns flag is still up, never before has it been hanging for so long. Screw the wild-card, lets win the division. And then fire Romeo. And Mike Brown. And get rid of the fat flopper, I tire of his Brazilian voice.

Lewis running Cleveland Browns toward playoffs

“It hurts the opponent both physically and mentally,” Crennel said. “But probably the mental aspect of not being able to stop the run, that wears on a defense. As soon as you start ganging up on the run, then you’re able to throw the ball down the field if you need to. That wears on a defense, and I can speak to that because it’s been wearing on us all year.”

This week’s genius: Romeo Crennel

fire romeo crennelRemember all the talk that the Cleveland Browns coach was on the hot seat? That he might not be around when time finally came for Brady Quinn to take over as starting quarterback? Think again. Crennel’s team is 7-4 after Sunday’s victory against Houston marked Cleveland’s fifth win in six games. If the playoffs were today, the Browns would be in.

Varejao on Cleveland: ‘I don’t want to play there anymore’

Over the past few weeks, several NBA general managers have told ESPN.com that Fegan has been searching out potential sign-and-trade deals, in which Varejao would agree to terms with another team and then be traded to that team. In recent days, there have been indications that the Cavs are open to the possibility of a sign-and-trade.

6-4…nevertheless…

Romeo is useless.  I probably don’t need to say more, but…

The Browns have scored 288 points this year.  They have given up 294 points.  Their defensive-minded coach is leading a team giving up almost 300 points after 10 games.  He has NOTHING to do with the offensive resurgence.

He’s the one that picked Charlie Frye over The Derek.

He’s the one that was forced to fire Maurice Carthon and forced to hire Chud.

They may make the playoffs, but I hope that doesn’t hide the fact that Dark Beauty has got to go.

Screw you Baltimore.

I’m watching the Ravens/Steelers game. There could be a great highlight reel made from this one. The Steelers are beating the crap out of Baltimore. Mel Blount was interviewed during the game saying Baltimore’s offense is an embarrassment. Pittsburgh looks awesome.

So…I really can’t friggin’ wait to see what our boys will do next week. I obviously want a win, but if they lose, please, PLEASE don’t have a game resembling what I’m watching tonight. This is humiliating for the sport of football.

p1brown.jpgI know it’s early, but watching the Cavs offense is too excruciating not to take a moment to bitch about it.

When a player gets double teamed or they pick up their dribble and are stuck, you generally like to see the other players on the offense move to places that give them a chance to get the ball.  Watch good teams.  You’ll see it every time.  Double team, someone cuts to an open spot and gets an open shot.

When the Cavs get double teamed, and I don’t just mean The, everyone stands around.  I’m not a professional.  I’ve never played organized basketball, but I can see it plane as day.  Does Mike Brown see the same thing?  If he does, does he tell the players what to do?  If so, do they ignore him?  I don’t understand.

I want to understand.
